How to receive mail notifications from the app Mail...
... with the app closed. I have to open the app Mail to receive the notifications of new mails.

Correct. I recommend you always keep the Mail app open. Personally, I've added Mail to System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items so it automatically fires up when I boot the Mac.
