Deleting Images from Numbers

I sometimes get messages regarding images in my spreadsheets which appear to be slowing things down. I wasn't aware there were any images in my spreadsheets; I haven't even learned how to insert them yet.

Is there a way to quickly purge a spreadsheet of all images?

Thanks.

you can clear images out of cells by selecting a cell without an image, copy, then select the cell with an image, paste. If the cell has other content that you do not want to purge, select the cell(s) with images as backgrounds (which is what happens when you paste an image into a cell, then open the cell formatte

I was experimenting with another way to do this, without opening the Format panel.

Numbers has a menu item to clear content and images from cells called Clear All. You can access it via the right-click contextual menu or the Edit menu.

So suppose you have a table which may have embedded images as well as numbers and text.

To remove the images while keeping everything else I tried this:

  1. Select all the cells in the table from which you want to remove images.
  2. Type Command-c to copy the contents to the clipboard.
  3. With the cells still selected choose Edit > Clear All.
  4. Choose Edit > Paste and Match Style.

That appeared to remove the images while keeping all the non-image content:

However I'm not sure either this or Wayne's method actually removes the images. They may still be there in the document, still slowing things down.

The reason I suspect this may be the case is that when I select cells and choose 'Image Fill' in the Format pane:

...the image I thought was "deleted" reappears in the cells.

Wonder if anyone has insights on how Numbers stores the images in the document.

Hi SG,

Numbers 3.5.3 with an image pasted into a cell.

Format Panel > Cell shows Image fill.

Some text typed over the image.

Now Format Panel > Cell > No Fill

Format Panel > Cell > Image Fill

The image is reinstated.

Following Wayne's method of copying a blank cell and pasting into the image cell,
