USB Apple Keyboard not recognised

Recently (possibly since upgrading to OSX10.01.5 but can't be certain) my iMac does not recognise the USB apple keyboard anymore. I had to find a bluetooth keyboard to login. I can see from earlier discussions this has been a problem in the past. The USB ports work fine with other devices. The keyboard works fine with other computers. How can I fix it??

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

generally you plug the Apple USB Keyboard and it will ask you to identity the keyboard by pressing the keys immediately to the right and left of the SHIFT keys. If you keyboard is damaged it wont work. Do you get an error message or alert?

Have you tried to connect that keyboard after the computer logs-in?

Have you tried another USB port?
Do you have other USB devices connected to the keyboard? If so remove them.

Have you tried to use it on a different Mac?
