Yes, you should alway saved your photos to a computer like any other digital camera.

Do not keep photos only on your iPhone.

1. Delete stuff / save stuff from iPhone you don't need to make space.

Note: To update IOS, use computer iTunes with your iPhone connected. The download is bigger but It needs less space on iPhone.
