If you are signed into the same iCloud on both devices, and have Photo Stream turned on, then they will share all photos between them. If they are not on the Photo Stream, then you wouldn't have any other way to share other photos since your iPad is running iOS 6.0.1....

If you can't transfer them you can always mail them or use DropBox.
If you have backed up your photos in icloud,then surely you can get it on ipad by going to icloud > log-in > click on photos (it will take few minutes to load and also depends on your network) > Download the photos you needed.🙂
That is presuming that the OP is using iCloud Photo Library, and the indication that they are running the iPad on 6.0.1 obviates that presumption....

Why not upgrade to iOS 8.4.1 and use AirDrop? (or other methods after the upgrade) To upgrade go to Settings > General > Software Update and select Download and Install. Make you sure you have a fully charged device or are connected to power.
