My storage says it has more data than i can find, how can I verify this?

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini running OS10.8.5 with a 500GB drive. I just ran Disk Utility and Repaired Permissions but when i check my storage it says i have 196GB free out of 499GB, yet when I run OmniDiskSweeper or check individual folders I can only find a fraction of that data. Any ideas on where it might be?

Notice below where the storage info from About This Mac says there is 41GB of movies yet the Movies Info shows 195MB...

Same holds true for Photos and Other hasn't changed even though I've cleared out the Mail Downloads, Downloads and other folders..

Any info is appreciated
