You would do best by making your own back up and restoring it from that backup. You can back up to iCloud or iTunes, and when you get the new phone, follow the prompts, and when you are asked if you want to set it up as New or Restore it from a Backup, select the Restore from a Backup option. Then click on the backup you made of your iPhone 5 and it will set up your new phone with all of the backed up information.

Where are you planning to do this trade-in? Did you buy your 5s within the last 14 days? If not, then Apple doesn't do trade-ins. If your carrier is going to make this trade, then you would ask them to transfer your data.

     If you have stored your data in icloud, then obviously the data from your old phone can be transfered to new phone, i hope you got the answer.if not please try to specify the problem clearly.

Just be absolutely sure that YOU have backed up your phone to iCloud or iTunes. You want to be sure you have an image of your device in a safe place before you trade it in.
