Since iso 7 when you charge an iPhone / iPad it Automatically backs up to iCloud
We have 2 iPhones 3 iPads and have not used our PC for over 2 years .
Almost everything can be done over your WiFi .
If you must syce to your pc make sure pc is running latest itunes 12.2.

Thanks for your reply. I realise since iOS 7 back ups to the iCloud happen over wifi but I take it from that that you pay for the extra storage? I've always backed up to the iMac as the option to back up to the iCloud only gave me 5 GB, not really enough on machines with a combined GB of over 200.
