Q: Do I need to save my files on my macbook if I am using iCloud drive -e.g. what happens if iCloud drive breaks down, will I lose all of my files?

Do I need to save my files on my macbook if I am using iCloud drive -e.g. what happens if iCloud drive breaks down, will I lose all of my files?

I am very keen to use iCloud drive as I travel a lot, but I am concerned that they will disappear if something changes/happens to iCloud drive

So I guess I am asking if I need to make duplicates of everything?

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

iCloud Drive already keeps a hidden copy of all the files on your computer.

Be aware though these copies sync with the cloud, so potentially any changes in the cloud will be reflected on your Mac. If you keep a back up of your Mac though, it should back up the hidden copies so that you can recover them should the worst happen.

What if I don't want the hidden files taking up space on my computer. I want only a read only for my files in the iCloud Drive
