I work in broadcast in South Africa.
Only when working with files that have been captured from a tape in pal do I get this problem.
The problem been I get what looks like 3 lines running along the top of the frame?
Dont think its an interlacing problem.
Any thoughts?

It only pops up in rendered files. Only from tape ingest. Only in pal... If I ingest hd tape source its all good?
The lines only run along the top of the frame. Rest of the image is fine?
Tom I use "Media express" to capture from dvcpro.
Put the file on a timeline in FCP X.
Add broadcast filters in pal.
Image is clean....
But the rendered file has those "3 or so lines" running along the top of the frame only....
Tried de interlacing. Tried changing field order ect... Nothing changes.

Really, even a small portion of the screen that excludes the image?
If this is not an original camera recording, or even if it is, it can be a few things, head switching error, information embedded in lines, other things. The edges of the screen in SD are all intended to be masked by standard TV masking, of which there isn't any of course on the computer screen.
OK, it's not that.
Its a full frame 4*3 image.
If I crop say 3 points and then zoom out the crop it solves the problem but this is not ideal....
Just really curious. It might be as you suggested information like vitc/ vanc....
Don't have any SD PAL media, but can't reproduce it in SD NTSC. What filters are you adding exactly? Rendering to ProRes 422 I assume.
Yip... rendering to Pro res 422...
Adding broadcast safety filters.... reducing luminance and reducing saturation.

But I can't see how rendering would cause that to appear.

FYI....
I did a test render to pro res 422... with all the filters ect...
CLEAN IMAGE.
Rendered the same timeline to DVCPRO50.... lines back?
So maybe its a codec issue?
You having the same issue Haile?
Is PAL DV lower field first or upper? Can't remember.
