When using any programme with my pad, the screen suddenly goes blanl. A short time later, it can be a few seconds, it reappears but in the App start screen. I have to resume my original programme. Is there any adjustment I can make to the pad which will rectify this.

The very first thing that I would try is a forced restart. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Try that and see if it helps. You might want to close all app as well.
Mine is doing the same thing. I closed all apps and forced a reboot. Didn't help. Any other suggestions?
