PC does not recognize all photos on iphone 5s during import

I am attempting to import my photos from an iphone 5s to my PC. There are close to 1,000 photos and videos on my phone. When I attempt to import, the PC is only recognizing 231. Please help. It used to be able to plug my phone in and import very easily. I have had issues for the past year.

Yes, Camera Roll is a special album to which all the photos you take are stored. You can only import from this album. If you have others, they must have been synced from a computer. Using official Apple tools, there is no way to IMPORT them, but many ways to get them to a computer. This includes emailing them to yourself, syncing through Dropbox or Google Drive, or using one of several third-party apps available for your computer.

I'm having a very similar problem. I've tried the work-arounds, and those have been unsuccessful as well. Some of the photos I want to put on my pc have never been imported, but they do not show up when I try to import them. Some photos I took before and after the ones I really want show up, but not the ones in the middle.

I would like to get all of the photos off of my iPhone 4s onto my pc. My pc (running Windows 8) does not recognize the older photos, and is skipping some of the newer ones. It's only recognizing the last 70 photos, when I have 650 on my camera roll. How do I get them all onto my pc? I've researched and researched and cannot find the answer.
