i keep getting a message to redownload iTunes be cause it s missing a component and won't let me sync my phone to iTunes. my question is will i lose my music files and how do you delete iTunes? my iMac says iTunes is required by iOS and won't let me delete it.

No, you won't lose anything by reinstalling iTunes.
However, you do make regular backups of your hard drive (Time Machine or other), correct?
