Q: How to use Airport Express only for Airplay Music on existing network via Ethernet?

Hello,

I searched the forums and can't seem to find the right answer.

My wifi connections name is "house wifi" and its run off a modem provided service provider and connected to two Ubiquiti access points via ethernet for longer range.

I have connected the airport express to a audio receiver via AUX for airplay.

I want to connect the airport express to my modem via ethernet cable and then be able to play music from my iphone connected to the "house wifi".

I do not need to extend the network or use any of the wireless capabilities from the Airport Express.

How do I set it up so I can just play music via airplay from my iphone connected to the "house wifi" to airplay? Which options do

You don't indicate what model of Express that you have, or what operating system that you are using on the device that will be used to configure the Express.......but in general, you have to use Apple's setup "wizard" to set up the Express to create a wireless network....call it anything that you want....and then once the Express is set up, you go back in using AirPort Utility to turn off the wireless function.

The result is an Express that connects to your network using Ethernet correctly, so AirPlay functions as well correctly.

    Okay,

I have the AirPort Express 802.11n 2nd Generations and running windows 10.

So after i set this up, the airplay feature will be automatically connected when I am on "house wifi" and will it use the range from the Access Points connected to

    house wifi?

Do you have AirPort Utility installed on your PC? If you do, then you do not have to use Apple's setup "wizard" at all and you can manually set up the Express exactly the way that you want.

If you don't have AirPort Utility installed on the PC, what device will be used to set up the AirPort Express?

Big difference. There is no "wizard" in AirPort Utility for Windows.

Reset the AirPort Express back to factory default settings

Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <--> ports on the router to the WAN "O" port on the Express

Open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Express and click Manual Setup

Click the Base Station tab below the icons and name the Express, assign a password, adjust time, etc.

Click the Wireless tab below the icons and change to setting for Wireless Mode from Create a wireless network to Off

Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab

    Connect Using = Ethernet

Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)

Click Update at the lower right of the setup window, wait a minute for a green light and you should be all set

AirPlay is automatically enabled by default
