mac book pro shuts down during start up

mac book pro shuts down during start up

My mac book pro will begin the start process, but shut back down about a third of the way through. I tried running diagnostic, and get an error symbol. It will start as a guest.

Just what error symbol did you get? At what stage did y get it?

Just where in the startup process does shut down?

Is it when the progress bar is finished filling up?

What OSX version?

What model MacBook Pro?

I got a exclamation point in the globe after about two minutes.

It shuts down with about a third of the progress bar loaded.

Try booting to Recovery

OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

and repairing the HD

If it can't be repaired then your HD has failed and has to be replaced.

After replacement you can boot from your install DVD and reinstall OSX.

Also, if you updated the EFI on your Mac

Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery - Apple Support

then you can instead boot to Internet Recovery to reinstall the OS
