Q: iDVD 7.1.2 and OSX 10.10.5 not recognizing USB DVD Burner. Please help!

I can watch bluray DVDs and plain DVDs so I know it is recognized but iDVD won't. Any ideas? Thanks!

Have you ever been able to see that optical drive with iDVD?  Does Disk Utility see the drive?

If so then if you follow this recommended workflow it won't make any difference if iDVD can't recognize it:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

When you mentioned disk utility I knew I should try booting with the drive attached and it worked! Thanks OT!
