Discrepancy between inbox in Mail and Time Machine
I have 4 messages showing in my inbox in Mail. When I go into Time Machine it shows 2927 messages in the inbox. I have no idea as to what is happening and any help would be appreciated.

Note that Time Machine shows the emails you had in Mail at the time you made the backup, so it is not accurate. Moreover, that's the purpose of Time Machine in Mail: recover deleted mails from your inbox.
Thanks for your prompt replay. I am still a bit confused. I thought Time Machine showed the situation at the particular hour it made the back-up. I had less than 10 messages in my in-box for over a week. Yet when I click into Time Machine it show over 2,000, some of some messages going back to 2011. By analogy if I go into Time Machine on my Desktop it shows only those items that were on the desktop on a particular time and date, not items that were removed previously.
I guess I am dense in not understanding your reply, but again thanks for getting back to me.
