Using an iMac as an external display for a PC

Hi So i own an iMac the late 2012 model and i decided to build myself a pc this year and instead of buying a new monitor i figured if i could use my iMac as an external monitor also ..I know that the models after the 2010 have thunderbolts so i was wondering if i got a motherboard with a thunderbolt port could iuse the imac in target display mode to run my pc ?

You can try it, but Apple has not designed iMacs to be used as external displays for PCs, so do not get angry if Target Display mode does not work with your PC. Anyway, I think it's much better to get an external display instead of trying to use an iMac that may not work.
