Hi,
I recently got a replacement phone, and performed a restore from iCloud. Now, everything else has installed as was before but now I have;
1. 700+ photos more than before
2. Duplicates of some photos (I assume this makes up most of the 700+ more photos)
3. Some photos from 6 years ago that were not on my phone before.
whats happened here?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4.1
Tap Settings > iCloud > iCloud Photo Library. Switch iCloud Photo Library off then back on.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync your photos then see if there are duplicates.

should 'optimize iPhone Storage' or Download and keep originals' be selected?

Also just info, the duplicates look low res versions...
OK...problem Solved! There was some setting issues in camera and photo. Quick hard boot and all was good!
