Disk Utility disappeared! - can't update

Hello - I am trying to install the latest update (10.10.5), but it says it can't proceed until I quit Disk Utility, which does not appear as open on the desktop.

I have tried 'Force Quit' but this doesn't work, though Disk Utility

Also I notice that the Disk Utility icon has actually disappeared from the Utilities menu! Is there any way of reinstalling it?

Where do I go now?

Try restoring Disk Utility from your backup. If that doesn't work, do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair Disk and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.
