Hi JacksonScarpelli,

I understand you are getting an error message when you try to backup your iPhone. Are you attempting to backup your iPhone via iCloud or iTunes?

From your post, it sounds like you are trying to backup to iCloud and you may not have enough available storage space to do it. However, the error message you mention in the title of your post indicates you are not connected to a computer? If you could reply to this thread with a little more information about your situation that would be great.

Until then, I will include resources below on how to check the capacity of your iPhone, how to increase iCloud Storage space, and how to backup via iCloud or iTunes.

Hi judysings,

Thank you for your reply. I'll try to give you all the information. First of all I'm attempting to backup my iPhone via iTunes, in fact the error message indicates like I'm not connected to the computer, but actually I do. It seems like it is working, in fact it synchronize and all music/video/photos are shown in my iPhone, but at the end I receive that error message. I can synchronize but not backup. I told you about my free memory because I thought it might be the issue, but 5 gb is anyway a bit of space according to me.

Thank you.

Hi Jackson,

Thanks for clarifying your issue for me. So, you are able to sync to your computer, but you can't back up your iPhone to the computer via iTunes. Is this a Mac or a Windows PC? What version of iTunes are you running? What is the exact error message you are seeing. I'm not familiar with the " impossible to backup iphone because it is not connected" message you indicate in your title.

Jackson, 5 GB of space is not a lot, so it is very possible that you don't have enough room on your computer for this backup. On a Mac, you can open the Finder application, and click Go > Computer from the menu bar to see your main hard drive, which is called Macintosh HD. Right click on Macintosh HD and choose Get Info to confirm the amount of available space you have on your machine.

On your iPhone, tap Settings > General > Usage to see how much space you have used in Storage.

Without additional information, my recommendation would be to back up your computer to an external drive using Time Machine (if it is a Mac) because you are running very low on hard drive space.

If you want to do an iTunes backup, you may need to move some of the files from your Macintosh hard drive to the external drive to free up space. Update your iTunes software to the latest version, and then attempt a backup again.

For your iPhone, I would suggest backing up to iCloud and purchasing additional storage if needed.
