How to fix corrupted user account from admininstrator

One non administrator account of four on my computer (IOS 10.7.5) has become corrupted. How do I repair the corrupted account from the administrator account so the user can retain access to her portion of the computer? I have seen suggestions, such as deleting the user but saving the home file, and then reinstalling the user, but I am afraid of losing saved items on the user's account. How can access to the user account be regained without losing files?

Also, how can you locate and identify the home file for the corrupted user on the Macintosh HD? Is it just a folder icon? Or, does it have the home icon for all other users?

Thank you.
