I am using a Macbook pro running os 10.10.4.I am unable to edit or delete certain cards in my contacts. The delete option is greyed out and certain parts of the contact such as address are greyed out and can not be changed. Help

If you are syncing with iCloud, try turning the sync off.
I am confused as to the “correct settings" for my contacts. Should I only have iCloud enabled on my Contacts preferences? Under Accounts on Contacts preferences, the icon for contacts is inactive. I am not able to activate the iCloud contacts icon.

Try System Preferences/iCloud and check Contacts there. Then if necessary. enable it in Contacts.
