what is a file like "a85afbbd1d4c91de06ed26b2ab18cb0c80725d38"? Can I delete it?

I have several large files with names like: file:///Users/...../Library/Application%20Support/MobileSync/Backup/bdc0e933f49 07969b25f03a289d471bbebdc7a48/a85afbbd1d4c91de06ed26b2ab18cb0c80725d38

Can someone tell me what these are and can I delete them without causing problems?

Thanks.

They are your iPhone, iPad, and/or iPod Touch backups.

If you do not care about your mobile devices and backing up their data, then you should first stop backing them up, then you can delete their older backups. If course if you should have to replace your mobile device, those backups are what you would normally restored a replacement device from.
