Q: MacPro no display when External HD plugged in
Hi there,
I'm trying to use my external HDD...My Book Thunderbolt DUO (formatted ex-fat) in BOOTCAMP. So, I need to plug my external in before I start my computer, right? Because plug n play isn't supported. When I do that, my computer starts up fine, the mouse has lights...but nothing shows up on my display.
Then I force shut down the MacPro. Disconnect the external, and boot it up without the external. No problem. Boots up like normal with the display working perfectly.
I really need access to my external w BOOTCAMP for work. I'm not very tech savvy and appreciate the help. Thanks!
Mac Pro (Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

How is the monitor connected?
If via a Thunderbolt port (mini display port plugs into Thunderbolt port) try a different ort for either the HD or minitor. Ti want them connected to differnt TB ports
Use multiple displays with your Mac Pro (Late 2013) - Apple Support
Try resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM
