Why do I have to bend the wire to charge my Nano iPod?

My iPod Nano will not charge unless i bend the wire. Has anyone else had this problem? How can I fix it?

It happens sometimes, and can happen with any electrical wire. If the cable is bent or twisted on a regular basis, it can cause the wires underneath the plastic shield to break. Usually, the plastic will tear as well, but not always. I have to do the same thing with my (don't laugh) Palm Pilot cord. Bending it just the right way allows the wires to acquire a complete connection.

The only remedy is to replace the cable.
