Garageband on Ipad does not recognize electric guitar. I am using IRIG2

I am using IRIG2: 1/4" jack from guitar to IRiG, 1/8" jack to headphone jack on Ipad I have turned off MONO in settings I have turned on MONITOR The "jack" icon in GB does not light as I imagine it should when I plug in the jack
