Section Breaks won't go away!!!!!!!

How the %& %*&& does one delete a section break in Microsoft Word for Office X?????

I have been trying to properly format my most favorite manuscript for Lulu.com and I keep running up against Section Breaks that REFUSE to be deleted.

What the ^& &()_)(%^& is the problem???????

A very frustrated Dr. Ni (I've only been at this since 2 a.m. ......!!!!!!!!!!!)

Dr. Ni,

I have Word for Office X and have been playing with section breaks. My experience seems similar to yours - these things do not delete quite the way that I would expect. The one way that I have found that works for me is the following:

- From View on the top menu, select Online Layout
- Make sure that the Standard Toolbar is selected - (View > Toolbars > Standard)
- On the Standard Toolbar, look for the last paragraph mark (looks like a backwards capital P). Make sure that its box is grey. If not, click the symbol.
- This should cause section symbols to be shown in the text. For me, I get a double line across the page with the words "Section Break".
- If I then put the cursor on the double lines and drag into the words "Section Break", the whole line is usually highlighted. Then, hitting the delete key will delete the section break.

There are still some things that don't make sense to me. For instance, in the practice document that I now have, I see 3 Section Breaks in Normal View. However in Online Layout view, I only see one Section Break. But, if I grab the lower right corner of the window and make the window narrower, then the other page breaks appear. If I make the window wide, they go away. Go figure.

I hope that this helps.
