Q: How am I supposed to sync my new macbook without cables?

A few months ago I purchased the new Macbook 2015 with only a USB C port.  How am I supposed to sync devices (iPhone/iPad) without cables?  I find it funny that apple would make a move to do away with ports, and support wireless syncing, but require me to purchase a USB C / lightening cable to use one time to sync my iPhone and iPad.  It seems wasteful on the environment and greedy.  Didn't apple just pocket a 40% margin on my $1,500 purchase?

MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015), iOS 8.4.1

Thanks, GB.  It's more of a moral/business issue.  The issue is two-fold: 1) Apple has made the move to go wireless, but still requires wires and 2) the wires are only required to be used once, which is wasteful.  To use a cliche, it seems penny wise, pound foolish.  Brand is the big play here.  OS quality and design are standardizing, and device manufacturers are catching up on hardware.  Making someone pay $20 for a cable to be used once goes counter to what apple stands for (or should).  If Apple wants to maintain it's Nike-like brand, then this decision doesn't seem to make sense.

Not sure why you would think they would only be used once. Wireless syncing is an option, not the only way to sync. I do not sync wirelessly. I sync by hooking up my device to my Mac. I have a bunch of Lightning to 30 Pin adapters because I have an iPhone 4 and iPad 1 and an iPhone 5s. I use the same cables I have been using since I got my first Apple device, and the adapters allow me to continue to use them.

There is really no morality/business issue here that I can see. Technology advances. We use adapters to continue to use our less technologically advanced stuff with our more technologically advanced stuff. Just sayin'....

I have to admit that I'm a bit conflicted on this issue. I don't really think it's a moral issue either, but at the same token when you purchase such a prestige device for a lot of money you would expect a few basic accessories. It's like buying  BMW and not getting air conditioning s standard.

I suppose that if you can afford a macbook 12, you should be able to spend $20 on a cable, but there is a principle and matter of convenience involved. C'mob Apple, either part with some of your profits or add $20 to the price.....either way, put the basic accessories in the box.

By the way.....had my Macbook 12 for a week with no issues. I have to admit that other than the usbc to usb cable, everything else is absolutely perfect. Never going back to any Microsoft device.

Gail.....based on what you said in your last sentence, I went out and Purchased the USBC to USB cable at Best Buy. I did use to to do the extra sync  between  my Mac12 and iPhone 6 plus.  Although I didn't have any music to transfer, it did function properly and I now know that I can transfer virtually everything between devices, either wirelessly or via cable. $20 invested toward the advancement of technology, and I don't have to purchase a bluetooth mouse (should I ever need one) because now my usb wireless mouse can work on this device too.
