I was told that my original ipad which has no battery life left could be swapped for a refurbished one. Am I just getting a refurbished ORIGINAL ipad with the unsupported software like the original has (I can no longer download many apps). Tech said yes, original ipad...but seemed not 100% sure of this. Does anyone know on the $99 refurbished model---is it the old operating system as well?
Yes. The replacement will be the exact same model you turn in. The original iPad can not run anything higher than iOS 5.1.1.

No. A replacement, by definition, replaces the original phone. If it's been modified and Apple has refused service for it, you won't be able to get a replacement. You'll have to buy a new phone.
