For those of us who still want a good DVD, will iDVD 7.1.2 work on Mavericks 10.10.5? And will IMovie 9..0.9 accept the file format created by iDVD 7.1.2?

Yes.

No. iMovie has never been able to import a standard mpeg2 video DVD.
