i have 2 iTunes accounts and have purchased content on both. I mainly only use one account now but would like have access to content on both accounts on my iPhone 6 plus.

Thank you Carolyn, so basically i have lost my content to some degree if i use the later account? I realize i can access with its login, but inconvenient.
You should be storing everything on your computer. Make sure it is all in your iTunes library, then sync it to your devices.
So you can't log in on the other account now to also update the content (I understand that you can redownload the apps under the one you use most)? It used to be possible (and still should be in my opinion) to logout and login under the other account. I understand Apple's reasoning for not being able to combine the accounts but this is different.
Nothing has changed, you can login to a different account (but depending upon what you then do, or what you've done with your already logged in account, a 90 day association may start/be in place : View and remove associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support)
