I just transferred to a new Macbook Air from an old 2009 Pro. I used migration assistant to transfer my info and iTunes needs me to authorize this computer to play songs that were in my sister's old library- that Apple ID is no longer in use though. Is there any way around this??

You can't transfer music from one Apple ID to another. Family Sharing can provide a workaround but even that has limitations and requires an Apple ID.
Not really. You have to authorize your new computer with your iTunes Store account. You can use library, Home or Family Sharing to access what is in her library.
How do you do the sharing? I tried recovering her ID but the apple system didn't recognize it.

But you need to recover the Apple ID before starting this as it requires the Apple ID to work.
