I'm trying to import 30 minutes of video from a tape based camera into FCPX. The problem is the subsequent thumbnails are only a couple of seconds in duration. Ideally I want the thumbnails to be 10 minutes or so in duration. I have checked my settings but it looks as if there's some kind of bug or am I missing something basic. Can anyone help?

Many people have reported similar issues. It's related to reading timecode breaks – and in some cases, even when the camera has not even been paused.
Try capturing in QuickTime or (if you have it) iMovie.

And just to add that it's the actual clips (not just the thumbnails) that are being captured to the computer as fragments.
