stuck on preparing to update on itunes

I recently updated iTunes to the latest 12.2.2.25. When I try to add more music to my iPhone, it stays on the "preparing to update" step before updating the songs to my iPhone. How do I resolve this issue?

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 8.4.1
