I just rented "Interstellar" and it wouldn't play. Airplay was turned on. Why?

Using a MacBookPro with the latest updates installed, I failed to get the movie to play. I am an experienced Apple TV used and have been so for 3 years. I continually got an error message saying something to the effect that not all my devices were compatible with the movie in HD. I think the movie was trying to download to my phone, but even after disconnecting "Home Sharing" I continued to be unable to get the movie to play. Why?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)
