Just got a new MacBook Air. When I'm using Safari, I will set up a tab to play sound (in this case, a metronome - I'm pretty ADD and I can't concentrate without it) while I go about other work in a different tab. However, the sound only plays when I'm active in that tab; if I switch, it immediately stops. I've tried muting/unmuting options and they don't seem to fix the issue. Help?

Does the same thing happen with all web pages that play sound?
It's not doing it with videos - Youtube, Facebook, or other sites with embedded videos - but it has done this with 4 separate metronome sites.
Please post a link to one of those sites and describe what steps I would have to take to reproduce the problem.
Sure:
1) Open a tab with some non-sound page. This post will do.
2) Open a second tab, go to this link: https://www.metronomeonline.com/ and turn on the metronome.
3) Go back to the other tab you were reading. The sound shuts off.
I just went to that website, started the metronome, and I'm typing this right now with the clicking sound still coming from that tab.
Ok, so it's something specific to my computer? Any suggestions?
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
That didn't resolve the problem 😟
