photos loading last import only

Have you checked the sort order of the Events window? Set it as shown in this screenshot:

and then look at the top of the Events window for the latest imports.

Note: if the photos have earlier dates then they will not be at the top of the window but somewhere near other photos of similar EXIF capture dates.

Most likely they are there but you are looking in the wrong place

this can be caused by incorrect camera data settings or by incorrect event sorting in iPHoto

Right click on a photo in last import and "show Event" to see where it is - the cause will probably then be clear

In the advanced settings in preferences, copy items into iPhoto is checked off

You might want to give that some very serious reconsideration.

You correct the camera setting ( you may need a new internal battery - often cameras have a second internal battery to keep the clock and other settings and your may have dies

You correct the already imported images using either the adjust time and date command (adding the same increment to each ) which probably is not wha you need in this case or the batch change data and time command which assigns a date you give it to all selected photos with an option of adding a small increment to each
