Macbook Air working fine then won't turn on, even after SMC reset

Happily working away on my MacBook Air all afternoon. Turned it off when finished and now - three hours later - it won't turn on. Charger indicating that the battery is full, however even after doing an SMC reset - nothing!

How can it just work one minute then be totally dead the next?
