ipad 2 will not work after update and will not restore to factory settings

I have 2 iPads that I purchased on eBay several months ago, they worked perfect until the last update. Both did the same thing. Said they could not be updated and needed to be restored to factory settings. I put both of them in restore and then I get several different messages telling me they can not be restored.

Can someone please help me? I have tried everything I could find on the internet about this and nothing works.
