Sent email gone after updating SMTP server

I recently moved my mail server - so i had to update my SMTP settings from HOST1 to HOST2.

After I updated the settings (which validated just fine) all my sent mail in that "Mail Account" is now gone.

I should note that this is with a POP account. I don't understand / know why changing an SMTP server would cause local mail to disappear.

Please help
