I've recently performed several updates on my iMac and now ALL of my pages and numbers files are gone! How can I find if my files are still stored on this computer or if they are permanently deleted (which I hope is not true!). Please help! Thank you!

Doubtful they are gone, OS X does not remove any data files. Start by restarting the computer and then reset the SMC and PRAM 2x each and then re-test. If you still cannot find them, then use Time Machine to restore them.
See if you can find the files using this program. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.
All my files are missing after my last update.
