Do I need VPN or IP proxy?

I do all of my internet private things such as banking, writing my MD--medical information, talking to my lawyer etc. (dealing with legal issues with my ex, and she is a severe snooper/stalker) at home on my own home network at home: wifi is securely password encrypted. I do not use public wifi for my private information needs. Do I need VPN? Do I need to use a proxy service to hide my IP address and encrypt what I do online? What is the easiest way to do these things if I don't need VPN?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2006 imac
