Can I disable Apple TV remote commands on my MacBook Pro?

I keep having a problem with my MacBook Pro when I use my Apple TV. Whenever I use the remote for the Apple TV while my laptop is on, it will pick up the signal from the remote and perform a command that I usually don't want it to do. Usually that's to either adjust the volume or open iTunes, which I do not want it to do. Is there any way to make my laptop stop recognizing signals from the Apple TV remote?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Launch iTunes on your Mac.

From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes > Preferences then select the Devices tab.

Click: Forget All Remotes then click OK.
