so what am I supposed to do with the Library.itl file that I moved to my desktop?

In the process of (hopefully) recovering tracks that have disappeared from my itunes, I am told to move the Library.itl file to my desktop. Yet the article says nothing about what to do with that file afterwards. So should I just leave it on my desktop?

MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2012), iOS 8.4.1

It's completely up to you. Nothing you do with it will affect anything else on your system.

You can get rid of it. You only put it there for safekeeping until you were sure the rebuild process ended up with a better result that going back to the original .itl.
