what happens if i put 16gb of ram when machine only takes 8gb

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), mid 2011 2.7ghz corei7

Actually that model can take:

Maximum Memory	16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots	2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

Just make sure you get the RAM from a place who says it will work with yur Mac. Macs are picky about memory
