How to delete ALL photos and videos from an Iphone 6?

I have some 6000+ photos and videos on my iphone 6 with ios 8.4. They have all been synched with my Dropbox account where I keep all my media files (not only from ios devices).

I would now like to delete ALL photos and videos from my iphone to free up space on the device without having to manually select each photo or video (6000+ items).

Previously I have been able to connect my iphone to my pc using the usb cabel an via the windows explorer deleted all files in the dcim folder. Now, this doesn't seem to work. I can see the folders and files, but I am unable to delete them.
