b key is causing window to shrink

this is weird. it just started happening a few minutes ago. when I start to type something that starts with a b in to the search bar (in safari) the window shrinks to the top left corner. if I try again from there it stays small but moves to the center of the screen. no other keys seem to have any other issues. what the heck could this be?
