Is it possible for the safari/YouTube on an iPhone 6 to be hacked and inappropriate content put in the history?

My husbands iPhone 6 is showing pornographic videos in the history on Safari and on YouTube when it is accessed from Safari. He says that he did not look up or watch the inappropriate videos, so how did they get there? Is it possible that his phone has been hacked or has a virus?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4, null

Unless his phone has been jailbroken, it doesn't have a virus.

Does anyone else (teenager?) share an Apple ID? If they are using Safari on a device that's logged into the same Apple ID, that might account for it.

But, in all likelihood, your problem is not technological. It's one of trust and a disagreement over what constitutes appropriate behavior in your marriage and what to do about that. That's much more challenging.

Thank you for your reply. I'm sure I sound naive or dumb, but we have never had anything like this happen in our relationship so my first reaction is to believe him instead of assume he is lying. No one has access to his phone or passwords other than the two of us.

No, you don't sound naive or dumb, just frustrated.

It is also possible that his browser could have been hijacked by malicious code in another site. It could have redirected him to sites he might not other wise have gone to. Write it off to that for now.

I don't want to comment on the main issue. However I would suggest clearing the Safari history and cookies. If it now contains cookies from such sites, pop us and adds could show up again. If you clear the cache and some "stuff" shows up again and nobody else has access to the phone... hmmm...

Here is how to clear it:

Close Safari completely from the multitasking window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the Safari preview pane up until it disappears from the screen. You may have to look for the Safari pane by swiping side to side as there may be other panes there from other apps. Then go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it comes up. You will not lose anything. (other than the history of the sites already visited).
