iPhoto Catch 22

Yesterday I downloaded 1700 images on iPhoto. Today I'm told I need to update the latest version because the version of iPhoto installed on my MacBook Air is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. I tried to do just that from the Mac App Store. Now Catch 22 I'm told that that particular software is NOT AVAILABLE in the UK Store.
